DasDas, the focal point for culture and the arts on Istanbul’s Anatolian side, is giving its stage to plays born of the creative spirit of the Kısalar Festival, first held last year. Made in short form and each under 20 minutes, ‘Üç Kısa’ (Three Shorts) will meet theatregoers for the first time at DasDas on the evening of Saturday 10 January.
First held last year, the Kısalar Festival continues to champion all performers working in pieces under 20 minutes and to support artists who bring the courage to try new things and the drive to create. This year, three short plays selected from the festival were shaped through processes of thinking, making and experimenting together – a tangible outcome of exactly this ethos. Meeting theatregoers for the first time on the evening of Saturday 10 January, ‘Üç Kısa’ brings to the stage, through performances of under 20 minutes each, the idea of freedom and a journey that grows alongside its artists.
In ‘Üç Kısa’, the story of a bird that, despite the pressures, chooses not to fly but to live in its cage; a man’s defence, in a play about a crime where power and manipulation intertwine; and a performer’s struggle to transform her outlook by facing her flaws come together on stage around the theme of freedom and merge into a single voice.

Kafes (The Cage):
The story of a bird that entered its cage of its own free will…
Kosmokrator:
A man, a defence, a crime. “Kosmokrator” is a play in which crime, power and manipulation are intertwined.
İç Ses (Inner Voice):
A performer striving to transform her outlook by facing her own flaws.
ÜÇ KISA:
Three separate lives, three separate kinds of entrapment, but a single question: when is a person truly free? The directorial approach focuses on making visible the invisible thread that links the texts. Watching three separate stories, the audience seems to pass through a single journey, witnessing a fragmented yet shared map of liberation. This special coming-together is not about merging different women’s experiences into one voice; on the contrary, each voice stands side by side on stage in its own colour, to show how plural and personal a matter freedom really is.
