On Thursday 16 November 2023 at 18:30, TESAK – Kadıköy Library of History, Literature and Art will host a talk with Arife Kalender as part of ŞiirEylem: Ecofeminist Conversations – What Changes and What Stays the Same in Poetry: How Does Personality Leave Its Mark on Poetry? The talk is free and open to all.
Moderator: Nilay Özer
Speaker: Arife Kalender
Arife Kalender published her first book, Maviler De Eskidi (The Blues Have Grown Old Too), in 1992. Keenly aware that the personal is both poetic and political, she developed a voice conscious of the poetic subject’s social and class position and its stance towards the world. From her 2004 book Deli Bal (Mad Honey) onwards, increasingly distinct changes could be seen in her language, style and form.
The conversation with Arife Kalender will cover her long poetic journey, what changes and what stays the same in poetry, and how a poet’s personality is reflected in metaphors, the conveying of sensory data, voice and imaginative world.
