Highlights of the Friday 21 November releases

· Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: For Good is a spectacular musical adventure that brings together themes of friendship, freedom and destiny in the magical world of Oz. Living in exile, Elphaba strives to protect Oz’s silenced animals, while Glinda has become the symbol of goodness in the Emerald City. When the paths of the two former friends cross once more, both their own fates and the future of Oz are swept into irreversible change.

· Directed by Edgar Wright, The Running Man is a gritty, high-octane dystopia that brings Stephen King’s novel into the present day. A man who enters a deadly reality show to pay off his debts must survive for 30 days while on the run from professional killers. Starring Glen Powell, the film masterfully combines action, suspense and social critique.

· Directed by Osgood Perkins, Keeper is a chilling horror-thriller in which a couple heading to the woods for a romantic getaway confront a dark threat from the past. When an unsettling presence emerges at the remote cabin, the night turns into a nightmare, and the couple are forced to face their darkest fears about each other and about cursed memories. Starring Tatiana Maslany, the film stands out for its atmospheric storytelling.

· Directed by Lotfy Nathan, The Carpenter’s Son is a supernatural horror story set in Roman-era Egypt. Joseph, Mary and their young son Jesus have lived under threat for years when the arrival of a mysterious stranger changes everything. As Jesus’s dark visions grow and a demonic force becomes ever more apparent, the family is drawn into a spiritual battle. Featuring Nicolas Cage and Noah Jupe, the film blends mythological and religious elements with suspense.

· Directed by Cherien Dabis, All That’s Left of You is an intergenerational drama telling the story of three generations of a Palestinian family, woven from pain, love and resistance. Stretching from past to future, it sincerely conveys the emotional journey of a family that has grown up with questions of identity, belonging and loss. Starring Cherien Dabis, Saleh Bakri and Maria Zreik, the film turns the region’s historical burden into a personal narrative.

· Directed by Yücel Kaplan, Cin Mezarı (The Djinn’s Grave) uncovers the spine-chilling truths behind a house bought at the wish of a mother who dreams of village life. The house Yusuf unwittingly steps into harbours a cursed past that once spelled disaster for a family. Offering an intense horror experience in a short running time, the film will appeal to fans of the genre with its atmospheric storytelling.

· Directed by Simón Mesa Soto, A Poet offers a fragile master-and-apprentice story that unfolds when a young girl enters the life of an ageing, unsuccessful poet. The days of Oscar, whom fame has never visited, take on new meaning when he discovers Yurlady’s talent; yet drawing her into the literary world proves a risky journey for both. With its emotional depth and graceful humour, the film delicately explores the complexity of human relationships.
