The Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı (Educational Volunteers Foundation of Turkey, TEGV), which has been bringing quality educational support to primary-school-age children for 30 years, continues its work to uphold children’s right to education and to make them aware of their rights. Having provided quality educational support to more than 3.2 million children with the help of over 100,000 volunteers to date, TEGV gives every child the chance to discover their own potential and talents.
Every year, 20 November is marked around the world as World Children’s Rights Day, to raise awareness of children’s rights. Focusing on the right to education, one of children’s most fundamental rights, the Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı (TEGV) helps raise modern generations in line with the principles and values of the Republic, guided by its vision “Bir Çocuk Değişir, Türkiye Gelişir” (Change One Child, and Turkey Develops). For 30 years the Foundation has been offering quality educational support to primary-school-age children at its activity centres across Turkey. Believing that a better future is possible with children who are aware of their rights, well equipped, knowledgeable and self-confident, TEGV is steadfast in its work to help children aged 6–14 become aware of their rights, through innovative, child-centred programmes run at its activity centres throughout Turkey and through distance learning.
TEGV gives children the chance to learn about their own rights
It continues to provide quality educational support to children at a total of 62 activity centres in 24 provinces of Turkey: 6 Education Parks, 30 Learning Units and 26 Ateşböceği (Firefly) mobile units. Having provided quality educational support to more than 3.2 million children with the help of over 100,000 volunteers, TEGV gives every child the chance to pursue their dreams and discover their own potential and talents. Through its programmes in areas such as art, science, technology and life skills, it contributes not only to children’s academic development but also to their social and emotional growth. Through the quality educational support it provides at all its activity centres, the Foundation also raises children’s awareness of “Children’s Rights”, supporting them in standing up for their rights and gaining self-confidence.
About the Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı (TEGV):
The Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı (TEGV) was founded on 23 January 1995 on the initiative of a group of industrialists, executives and academics, led by Suna Kıraç, who wholeheartedly believed that education comes before everything else, with the aim of supporting the basic education provided by the state. Focusing on free educational support for primary-school-age children outside school hours, TEGV has over the years become the most widespread non-governmental organisation working in education in Turkey. In 2009 TEGV was recognised by the Council of Ministers as one of the foundations entitled to “raise funds without prior permission”. The Foundation currently continues to provide quality educational support to children at a total of 62 activity centres in 24 provinces across Turkey: 6 Education Parks, 30 Learning Units and 26 Ateşböceği mobile units.
